Quo Vadis & Friends: Journey’s End

07th May

QV & Friends: Journey’s End Vineyards
Wednesday 7th May, 7pm

Quo Vadis regulars will likely be acquainted with the dynamic Rollo Gabb and his life affirming South African wines, from his boutique estate, Journey’s End, in the Schapenberg Hills. No stranger to hedonism, before moving into the wine world, Rollo used to host nights at The Hacienda in Manchester, and installations at Burning Man. On 7th May, he, along with head winemaker Mike Dawson, will expand our consciousness through the mediums of fine wine and conversation.

Journey’s End, purchased by the Gabb family in 1995, is built on ancient 350-million-year-old decomposed granite soils, overlooking the nearby False Bay. As well as fantastic views, the vineyards benefit from the cooling and cleansing powerful south-easterly wind, known as the ‘Cape Doctor’, which blows in from the icy Atlantic Ocean, and produces an elegant, refined quality in the wines.

The modern cellar provides cellar master Leon Esterhuizen and winemaker Mike Dawson with all they need to produce the highest-quality wines. Innovative and progressive, the team uses processes such as carbonic maceration, push boundaries with amphorae pots and concrete eggs and have adopted a philosophy of minimal intervention, both in the cellar and in the vineyards. Journey’s End’s long-term commitment to farming in harmony with nature saw Journey’s End awarded WWF (World Wildlife Fund) Conservation Champion Status in 2020.  Journeys End is furthermore the very first and only South African wine producer to be B-Corp Certified. We can all drink to that.

Jeremy Lee has designed a high springtime four course menu to be paired with Journey’s End wines on the evening.
